Obituary for Ronald Roe Holmes, “Ron”

Ronald Roe Holmes, “Ron”, age 76, of Cross Plains, Tennessee, died Saturday August 21, 2021, at Tristar Skyline in Nashville, TN.

Graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday August 25, 2021, at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Cross Plains, Tennessee. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Ron was born August 17, 1945, in Springfield, TN to the late Robert Holmes and Helen Roe Holmes. His brother, Robert Holmes and sister, Carolyn Dillard also preceded him in death. He was a retired computer programmer with IBM. A career highlight was doing program work on the first ever ATM. He loved playing golf and traveling and especially his dog, Ralph.

Holmes: sons and daughters-in-law, James and Beth Holmes, Steve and Alice Holmes, Mike Holmes, Adam and Kim Stosky, Michael Stosky and James Hosael; sister. Angela Holmes Beasley Murray and grandchildren, Emma Holmes, Morgan Holmes and Henry Hosael.

Obituary for Johnnie Lee Wood Sr.

Johnnie Lee Wood, age 92 of Smyrna, TN passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at his home.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Monday, August 23, 2021 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home with Rev. David Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends 3pm to 7pm on Sunday, August 22, 2021 and 9am until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
He was born in Adams, TN on July 25, 1929 to the late Ray and Elizabeth Spry Wood. He was also preceded in death by his wife Helen Delores Stack Wood; brother, Bobby Harned Wood and sister, Fannie Mae Wood. He worked as a Brick Mason in the housing industry. He loved his family very much and enjoyed traveling and fishing.

He is survived by wife, Linda Joyce Brothers Wood of Smyrna, TN; children, Johnnie Lee (Velma) Wood, Jr of Springfield, TN, Deloris (Dewey) Edwards of Springfield, Tn, Mary King of Smyrna, TN; step-children, Ronald (“Naty”) Brothers of Nashville, TN, Donna floral square(Randy) Massa of Smyrna, TN, Tony (Angie) Brothers of Smyrna, TN; siblings, Barbara Wooden, Jerry (Dorothy) Wood, Brenda (Randy) Wilmore, Billy (Carolyn) Wood; 8 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Obituary for Clay Tucker

Dewey Clayton “Clay” Tucker, age 54, of Joelton, Tennesseee, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at his home.

Clay was born on February 17,1967 in Nashville, Tennessee to Paul Tucker, Jr. and Paula Llewellyn Walker. He worked in construction for many years. He loved to play pool and was an avid fisherman, where he competed in many tournaments. Clay loved the outdoors, camping, and the lake.

He is preceded in death by his step-father, David M. Walker.

Obituary for Wanda Gail Andrews

Age 68 of White House went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 20, 2021 at her home. She was born July 6, 1953 in Hartsville, TN to Erby D. & Clara Lee Green Lankford. Mrs.

Andrews was a member of the Church of the Firstborn in Hartsville and a dedicated servant to her church, serving in many areas over the years. Just a few of those included working in VBS, summer camps, youth activities and with senior groups. She always had a willing heart to help where she was needed. She had a beautiful voice and sang in church her entire life. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and was so very proud of her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl Gwin (Janette) Lankford; son-in-law, Doug Ferris. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Wayne Andrews, White House, TN; daughters, Amanda Ferris, White House, TN and Rachael (Lewis) Bugg, Cross Plains, TN; brother, Brandell (Lois) Lankford, Hartsville, TN; sisters, Ann (Jack) Suttle, White House, TN, Helen (Gary) Mink, Greenbrier, TN, Betty (Ralph) Mitchell and Brenda (Ray) Storey, both of White House, TN; 3 grandchildren, Kaitlin (Bryce) Ellis, Lauren and Colby.

Obituary for Doris Bagby

Mrs. Doris Coleman Bagby, age 96, of Adams, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021 at her home.

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 8am in the Bellwood Cemetery with Brother Marvin Crouch officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.

Mrs. Bagby was born February 15, 1925 in Davidson County, to the late Claude and Owa Foster Coleman. She worked at Acme Boot and was a member of the Adams Church of Christ. She loved going to church, cooking, talking on the phone and taking care of her family.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Bagby is preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Walker Bagby and her son, Thomas Andrew Bagby.

Obituary for Eula Belle Stockard

Eula Belle Ellison Stockard, a longtime physical education teacher at Nannie Berry Elementary School in Hendersonville, died on Thursday, August 19, at age 86.

The daughter of Elsie Carrie Harder Boyd and Albert Ellison Sr., she was born July 6, 1935 on Cedar Creek near Linden in Perry County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Langford Stockard; brother, Eddie Ellison; and sister, Nancy Barrett. Survivors are daughters, Emily Stockard (John Leeds) and Carrie Stockard, and son, Sam Stockard (Diane); sister, Ollie Mae Moore; brother, Albert Ellison Jr.; and her grandchildren, Andrea and Sam Stockard, Will and Charlotte Cloyd and Atticus Leeds. Also surviving are brother, James Ellison, and two sisters, Linda Barber and Ruby Himes.

A standout basketball player at Linden High School, Eula earned a bachelor’s degree at George Peabody Teachers College, where she met Richard. They married Aug. 18, 1957 and moved to California where Emily and Carrie were born before they decided to move back to Tennessee where son Sam was born.

Eula taught at Nannie Berry from 1970 until her retirement in 1995 where she started the Presidential Physical Fitness Program, the Nannie Berry Yardage Club and Hershey Track and Field program. She affected the lives of thousands of students, encouraging them to excel at their favorite sports and physical fitness activities.
She was often referred to as the “Bicycle Lady,” and many people still recall seeing her riding her bike to school, which she did nearly every day for more than 15 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, where she was a member of the Women’s Society, and for several years she and Richard attended West End United Methodist Church in Nashville.

In retirement, Eula continued a life of physical fitness, in addition to traveling, tending to flower gardens, reading to children at Nannie Berry, and playing with her grandchildren and neighborhood children.

floral squareGraveside services are to be held at 2:00 on Monday, August 23, at the Harder Cemetery on Cedar Creek in Perry County. Austin & Bell Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

Her family will have a visitation for Eula on Tuesday, August 24, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm in the Nannie Berry Elementary School gym.

Obituary for Carl Thomas Hutson

Age 56 of White House went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Hendersonville Medical Center. He was born January 19, 1965 in Clarksville, TN to Tom & Faye Wall Hutson. He was the co-partner of Hutson brothers Plumbing and was a member of White House Church of Christ. Mr. Hutson enjoyed drag racing, deer hunting and was an avid outdoorsmen. Most of all, he loved his family and his church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Tom Hutson. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Cathi Hutson; sons, Nickolas (Heather) Oden and Adam Oden; daughter, Ashley (Brody) Luna, all of White House, TN; mother and step-father, Jerrel and Faye Wiseman, Cottontown, TN; brothers, Mark (Gina) Hutson, White House, TN and Blake (Christina) Hutson, Hoover, AL; step-brother, Dean Wiseman, Cottontown, TN; step-sister, Pam Holt, White House, TN; 7 grandchildren, Lane, Colby, Lexi, Carter, Kenzie, Cannan and Remi Mae.

Betty Jean “Tooter” Mayo, age 89 of Springfield, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at NorthCrest Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 1pm on Friday, August 20th at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier with Bro. Randy Harman officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with family serving as pallbearers. The family received friends 11am until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

She was born in Greenbrier, TN on October 26, 1931 to the late Russell and Helen Morris Williams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Norman Mayo; sons, Terry Mayo, Ricky Mayo; sister, Joan Baldwin and brother, Son Williams.

She served as a Cafeteria worker for the Robertson County School System and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. She loved her family and her church very much. She enjoyed the outdoors and flowers.

Age 63 of Cross Plains, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at his home. He was born April 14, 1958 in Ogden, UT to Herbert John & Virginia Hall Yarlett. Payton was born in Nashville, TN on June 13, 2002 to Scott Alan and Hollie Lynn Reid. He was a 2020 graduate of Greenbrier High School and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed music, gaming, fishing and spending time outdoors.

Joann “Jody” Marshall Bean, 91, of Springfield, departed this life on Sunday August 15, 2021, at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

A private family graveside service was conducted on Friday August 20th in the Green Acres Memory Gardens in Crossville with Reverend Jerry Wallace officiating. Paul Hart, Andrew Bixby, Tommy Bean, and Orville Hale serving as pallbearers. The family will hold a Memorial Service at a future date.

Mrs. Bean was born January 22, 1930, in Toledo, OH to the late George and Sara Samuel Marshall. She was a retired school teacher from the Cumberland County Board of Education. Mrs. Bean was a member of Springfield First United Methodist Church, where she served as a Stephen Minister. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, and especially loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter: Bethany Bean, by her sister: Sharon “Sherry” Brown, by her nephew: Warren Brown, and by the father of her children: Judge James A. Bean.

Randy was born on September 24, 1959 in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Joseph Edward and Arretta Jeannette Ledford Gill. He was of Baptist faith and formerly worked as a material handler at Unarco. In addition to his parents, Randy is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gill.

She was born February 4, 1934 in Cedar Hill, TN to the late John Lee, Sr and Lillian Evans Bagwell. She was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ in Springfield, TN.

She enjoyed cooking, spending time with friends and her children, grands and greats and sharing her life-long days with the love of her life for almost 69 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Roger Alan Herndon, Sr.

Obituary for Ethel Imogene Edmonds

Age 87, formerly of Greenbrier passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at The Waters of Robertson. She was born March 15, 1934 in Nashville, TN to Dan Taylor and Mabel Beulah Cole Nichols. She worked as a bakery manager before her retirement. She enjoyed cake decorating and made the best blackberry cobbler in the world. She really enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking for family get togethers. Mrs. Edmonds was a Christian and attended the Methodist Church and then later the Pentecostal Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy Everette Edmonds; sister, Nancy Alcorn; brothers, Dan Nichols, Harold Nichols and Kenny Nichols. Rita Kaye Higdon, age 63 of Greenbrier, Tennessee, passed Away Monday, August 9 2021 at her home.

Rita was born on October 30, 1957 in Harrodsburg, KY to the late Ezra C. Weldon & Mary E. Weldon of Louisville KY. She was the bookkeeper for Greenridge Termite & Pest Control for the last 17 years. She loved quite time and playing computer games and collecting all things elephants.

In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by a brother, Rory C. Weldon of Louisville, KY.

floral squareSurvivors include her husband of 47 years, Steve Higdon; son, Kenneth Higdon (Brandy); daughter, Sherry Breen (Sammy); grandson, Ken Jr, brother, Ron Weldon (Michelle); Sister, Vickie Catlett (Jim) and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rita’s remains were cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Mr. Farmer was born April 4, 1948 in Springfield, TN to the late Henry and Lois Shelborn Farmer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gara E. Talbert Farmer; brother, Charles D. Farmer, son, Michael Farmer and daughter, Tammy Jo Farmer.

Randall Phillip “Randy” Gill, age 61, of Springfield, died on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at St Thomas West Hospital in Nashville.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00pm on Monday, August 16, 2021 at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Randy Mullinax officiating. Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00am – 1:00pm.

Randy was born on August 24, 1959 in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Joseph Edward and Arretta Jeannette Ledford Gill. He was of Baptist faith and formerly worked as a material handler at Unarco. In addition to his parents, Randy is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Gill.

Ethel Mae Groves, age 86, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 at 2pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother Buddy Rawls and Brother Curtis Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with David Allen Hall, Ricky Hagan, David Clouse, Randy McEwing, Jack Groves and Warren Osborne serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Teddy Hall and Ashley Eden.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on August 27th from 10am until the hour of service at 2pm.

Mrs. Groves was born May 19, 1935 in Bowling Green, KY to the late George Thomas and Eula Mae Golden Tinsley. She worked at Genesco and was of the Pentecostal faith. She loved her family and friends, crocheting, quilting, drawing and coloring, and cooking and fishing.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Groves is preceded in death by her first husband, Kinslow Lam, her second husband, Billy L. Groves, her sister, Aileen Hagan, her brother Earl T. Tinsley, daughter, Diane Casey, and her sons, Jerry Lam and Doug Lam.

Burial followed in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Mark Ware, Dennis Pratt, Isaac Pratt, David Madrid, Allan Roggerie-Ray and Dillan Fudge serving as pallbearers.

Visitation was held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11am until the time of service at 2pm.

Mrs. Hardy was born April 17, 1977 in Nashville to the late I.J. and Phyllis Hinkle Beasley. She worked as a nurse at Vanderbilt Medical Center and was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Hardy is survived by her husband, Elmer Ray Hardy; sons, Jacob Ray Hardy and Phillip “Gabe” Hardy, both of Springfield; brother, Gary (Linda) Beasley of LaVergne; sisters, Linda (Ropen) floral squareNalbandian of Daytona Beach, FL, Cindy (Greg) Bessman of Gainsville, FL, Laura (Mark) Ware of Hendersonville and Amanda (Dennis) Pratt of Springfield.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 15th from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 3:00PM.

Mr. Binkley was born on December 23rd, 1948 in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Leonard Neal and Lucille Dillard Binkley. He was retired from the printing business and loved mowing grass and watching western movies. He especially loved being a grandpa.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Binkley; and brother, Paul Binkley.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parker is preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas Parker; son, Scott Parker; brother, Perry Davis; sisters, Alice Walker, Hilda Wilks, and Ruth Davis.

Mrs. Parker is survived by her son, Richard (Amy Patrick) Parker of Satellite Beach, Florida; daughter, Jennefer Parker Lindsey of Clarksville; brother, Jim (Sara) Davis of Sylva, North Carolina; grandchildren, Zachary Parker, Heath Parker, Nichole Lindsey Groves, Jake Parker, and Joshua Lindsey.
